Presentational devices are used in many ways in a magazine. They can link into the main artist. colour scheme may infer things. looking at this magazine they wanted to entrench a wealthy sort of look. 'xxl' is a hip hop magazine which has been presented very well. First of all looking at the masthead of xxl they have a very strong brand identity. Meaning that they are a well known hip hop magazine. This edition seems as if it is trying to promote quality and wealth amongst this cover. We can see that the bold font is very clear. Which links into brand identity. the masthead
has diamonds implemented into it. Diamonds are associated with wealth. this can be reflected in the rich typography used in the coverlines 'exclusive interviews'. The chains on the main image tattoos. These are all a sign of wealth and are linked into hip hop artist very well. the puff 'a decade of dominance' is really good as the repetition of 'd' works well. I may use something similar in my magazine.

The main image is strong on this front cover as it stands out very well. The image is stereotypical of hip hop artist. Looking at the props. Hat , chains, rings, watches and earrings. These props are normally seen on hip hop artist. These props indicate wealth amongst our readers. As these items are expensive. lil wayne and baby are brands in themself as they are popular artist. also this cover is a special edition so the main image had to look good. xxl have accomplished this. This front cover could bee seen as being attractive to all sexual backgrounds as it can as men and women would like this cover as they are topless. The magazine is attracting all audiences. Being topless can bee seen as homo-erotic. Wealth is expected by audiences for their hip hop artist to be all wealthy and mighty looking.

The typography is good as it is a special edition they have gone for a richer font. The masthead head has been specially designed in diamonds for this edition of 'xxl'. Bold font works well with this magazine. The brand image is effective. The photographer has used a poor looking background as it show how they have come from the ghetto to rich becoming famous. As they are well known worldwide artist. We can get this idea due to the background. baby has had his arm around him in the image as baby has been a father figure through his life which shows love between them which some readers may find appealing. jewellery shows the wealth. The chains also represent the record label as lil Wayne is wearing a young money chain which is the record label. through this image they are promotoing their successful record label.

The coverlines are conventional of magazines in general. 'survival of the fitteset' could be talking about how good the artist have been in the hip hop industry. Overall the magazine has used represented itdelf well as a hip hop magazine.
